Andhra Pradesh Government has assured the centre that in the next fifteen months more than five lakh affordable houses will be built in urban areas of the State under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Progress of PMAY (Urban) in the State was discussed in detail during the meeting of Andhra Pradesh Minister of Housing & Urban Development – Dr. P. Narayana and Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs – Hardeep Singh Puri. The State Minister stated that construction of approximately 5.39 lakh houses for urban poor will be completed in the next fifteen months.
State Government spent considerable time in identifying appropriate technology for constructing houses under PMAY (Urban) while ensuring that it conformed with the norms for disaster resilience etc. After detailed consideration, Andhra Pradesh Government chose ‘shear wall’ technology for this purpose and recently the foundation stone was laid for construction of over one lakh dwelling units under PMAY (Urban).
The two ministers also discussed the proposal for Vijayawada Metro Rail project and sought early clearance and Puri assured the State minister that as and when the revised proposal is received, it will be given due consideration by the Centre, keeping in view the focus of the State Government on improving State public transport infrastructure.
