CIDCO to Construct Rope Suspension Bridge at Chikhaldara. CIDCO is coming up with a project to construct a rope suspension bridge (skywalk) at Chikhaldara. The Skywalk will be a 407-meter bridge with a width of 2.35 meter that will connect Hurricane Point and Goreghat Point. It is the first single suspension bridge to be constructed in the state and third of its kind in the world, quoted Devendra Jamnikar, Executive Engineer and In-Charge of this project for CIDCO.
An initiative to boost tourism in the hilly state in Vidarbha the selected location acts in-depth between the two points where the wind speed is around 160 kmph. They will be constructing the skywalk to withstand wind speeds of up to 190 kmph. “The tendering work process will be initiated once the forest clearance is obtained quoted Jamnikar. He further informed that the project would require diversion of 0.872HA of forestland where they have applied for the clearance on August 2. The process takes around six months he said post which the construction work will start after the clearance is obtained and will be completed in about 18 months. The skywalk will have a glass flooring.
“Formed by three layers of St Gobain glass of 12mm thickness, the floor will bear the weight of around 500 people at a time. Designed by an Indore-based firm, KC Pathak & Associates it will be built at a cost of Rs 37.98 crore. CIDCO plans to also construct a 1.5km cable ropeway from Energy Point to Malviya Point, and approach roads to all points. In 2016, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis approved a Rs500 crore development plan for Chikhaldara to tap its potential by creating basic tourism infrastructure as the hill station is popular in Vidarbha for its picturesque landscapes.
