High Court OKs model school project | Cuttack News

CUTTACK: The legal hurdle for the construction of a model school — Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya — at Banamalipur under Athamallik block in Angul district has been cleared after over two years, with the Orissa high court finally declining to interfere in the matter and dismissing a petition challenging it. Construction had stalled owing to an interim order passed by the high court on the petition.
The state government is expected to establish one model school in every block. While model schools have been established in Angul, Talcher, Chendipada, Kishorenagar and Pallahara blocks of Angul district, the one for Athamallik block had hit a roadblock. Construction had started at Banamalipur but Dusmant Nayak, a social activist of the area, had filed a petition challenging its location on August 7, 2018.
When the petition was taken up on March 22, 2021, the standing counsel for the school and mass education department submitted that the construction of the school at Banamalipur had stalled because of an interim order the court had passed on August 27, 2018. “The location is more central from the point of view of the block and, therefore, more accessible to all the villages in and around Banamalipur,” it argued.
While dismissing the petition, the bench of chief justice S Muralidhar and justice B P Routray said, “The court is not satisfied that sufficient ground exists to interfere with the decision of the opposite parties to re-locate the school at Banamalipur. The interim order passed earlier stands vacated.”
