Work to decongest traffic has already started on the Ajmeri Gate side and a number of key buildings have been shifted to allow more space for cars to drop off and pick passengers opposite platform 16, added the report.
It has also come to light that the authorities will also move taxi and autos to a designated parking zone in lieu of the current lane system which often becomes problematic for passengers. RN Singh, divisional railway manager, Delhi Division, explained that accessing the entrance to the railway station, especially the Ajmeri Gate side, was becoming a “huge problem” and that people usually get stuck due to a zigzag design. They have looked to rectify that by building a direct access road from Bhavbhuti Marg, which will open in front of the platform.
The work has already begun on and the project deadline has been set for December. On the other hand, operations to erect a skywalk have also started with the help of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). After the construction of the skywalk, metro passengers can directly reach the station without encountering any waves of traffic. The first phase of the skywalk will be completed by December 2018 and the second phase is scheduled to be finished by March 2019 and will be extended to the Airport Express Line building.
