Bengaluru, India (Urban Transport News): Rakesh Singh, an IAS officer of the 1989-batch, has been appointed as new Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) with effect from today i.e. April 4, 2021. The Karnataka Government Secretariat has issued his posting order today.
“Sri Rakesh Singh (KN: 1989), Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Water Resource Department, Bengaluru is placed in the concurrent charge in the post of Managing Director, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Bengaluru with immediate effect and until further orders, vice Sri Ajay Seth, IAS proceeding on Central Deputation,” said the posting order issued by Govt. of Karnataka.
Ajay Seth, who had been serving as Managing Director of BMRCL, was on April 6, 2021, appointed as new Economic Affairs Secretary to the Government of India in Finance Ministry. His posting order came on the day BMRCL was carrying out a trial run on the eagerly-awaited Mysuru Road-Kengeri extension of the Purple Line of Bangalore Metro Rail Project.
Seth has been credited with several milestones of Bangalore Metro. The latest was the launch of the extended Green Line on Kanakapura Road in January this year, bringing huge relief for a large number of residents near the 6-km line from Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute.
Rakesh Singh would be the busiest bureaucrats in the state as the Government has a major focus on the development of urban transportation in Bengaluru City.
Now Singh has major responsibilities to oversee the under-construction Phase 2 project of Bangalore Metro.
