Foundation stone have been recently laid for construction of the Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, UAE; which will be the largest temple in the Middle East and spread across 55,000 sq m area, will be completed by 2020. Raglan Squire and Partners (RSP), an architectural practice based in Singapore, has been chosen to lead and oversee the design and construction of the much-anticipated temple complex in Abu Dhabi.
In this project, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha’s traditional architects (known as sompuras) and engineers will design the stone temple or mandir as it is known in Sanskrit. RSP a Singapore Firm to Lead Design of Temple Constructed in Abu Dhabi.
The exterior of the mandir will be made of pink sandstone from Rajasthan and the interior from white marble that will be handcrafted by artisans in India. RSP’s experts from Singapore, India and the UAE will form a team with BAPS’s core team and other respected subconsultants like Ramboll to develop a vibrant cultural and spiritual centre.
The complex will include places for children’s activities, exhibitions, multiple prayer halls to serve the community as well as a pure vegetarian food court among other facilities.
The signing event was held with volunteers and community leaders who had contributed to the project. The guests of honour were Navdeep Singh Suri, Ambassador of India to the UAE and His Excellency Samuel Tan Chi Tse, Ambassador of Singapore to the UAE.
The agreements were signed by Dr. B.R. Shetty, Chairman of Mandir Limited and Mr. Lai Huen Poh, Global Managing Director of RSP Architects, Planners and Engineers.
Pramukh Swami Maharaj had first proposed to build the temple and the permission for its construction was granted by Crown Price of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day in 2017. This endeavour to spread the message of harmony takes Make in India all the way to the UAE which houses over 3.3 million Indians.
The important phase of the complex is slated to be inaugurated during the Expo 2020 in Dubai. Expo Dubai starts in October 2020 and runs through to April 2019. About 180 countries will participate in the first world fair in the Middle East and North Africa region, and an estimated 70 per cent visitors are expected from overseas, the biggest numbers in expo history.
